Remarks
Broadcast from the Bayreuth festival
A production by Wieland Wagner (1956)
The Myto release (and all other releases) are a patchwork of the 1961 and 1957 Bayreuth Meistersinger. Act 1 after Walther’s “Fanget an” cuts to the 1957 Bayreuth performance. Act 2 is a very poorly edited version of the 1961 and 1957 performances. Only act 3 is complete from the 1961 performance. Fortunately, there is a complete BBC broadcast which can be used to fill in the gaps, although the sound quality is inferior to the Bayreuth tape..
