Daniel Barenboim gives his debut at the Wiener Staatsoper.
Originally a new Tristan und Isolde under Barenboim’s direction was planned with Plácido Domingo as Tristan. Domingo, however, wasn’t ready to perform Tristan on stage and withdrew from the production. So instead of a new Tristan a “musikalische Neubearbeitung” of Die Walküre with Domingo was given.
